Ghana’s Black Galaxies have been eliminated from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) following a disappointing 3-1 loss to Nigeria in the second round of their qualifier on Saturday, March 3, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria.
Having already played out a goalless draw first leg in Accra, Ghana needed a full sweep to take them to the tournament. Nigeria showed a purpose, however, controlling the game from the onset, and were able to stun Galaxies by taking three goals in average terms within the first half. Ismaila Sodiq opened scoring after 19 minutes with junior ndika and savior isaac making the other two goals in 22 and 25 minutes respectively. Defensive gaps and poor coordination of the back line would cost the Ghanaians, who struggled to recover from the early hit.
Neither could this turn the game in favor of the team “Ghana” as Stephen Amankona pulled one back in the 73rd minute with a very spiced finish, 3-1 on the night. Nigeria therefore proceeded to the CHAN tournament on a 3-1 aggregate.
