Frank Annoh-Dompreh has been declared the winner of the Nsawam-Adoagyiri parliamentary seat following the recollation exercise on Saturday, December 21.
He secured 29,640 votes, narrowly beating his nearest rival from the NDC, who received 29,433 votes.
“I dedicate this victory to the Almighty,” he said in a statement to the press after the announcement.
This declaration follows a High Court order instructing the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate and announce the results for several constituencies, including Ablekuma North and Nsawam-Adoagyiri, despite earlier results having already been declared.
Displeased parliamentary candidates from both the NDC and NPP filed a writ demanding that the EC conduct fresh elections in these constituencies, citing irregularities in the collation process and the declaration of winners.
In his ruling on Friday, December 20, Presiding Judge Joseph Adu Owusu Agyeman directed the EC to proceed with the re-collation of results for the Ablekuma North constituency, despite objections from NDC’s lead counsel, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo. Similarly, objections raised by Gary Nimako, lead counsel for Frank Annoh-Dompreh of the NPP, were also dismissed. Both lawyers had argued that the results for these constituencies had already been declared, but the court ruled that irregularities in the process warranted a re-collation.
