Mahama Urges Continued Dialogue with Akufo-Addo Beyond Transition

 

 

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication with outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo even after the transition process concludes.

 

Speaking at the inauguration of the Presidential Transition Team on Wednesday, December 11, Mahama expressed satisfaction with Akufo-Addo’s willingness to cooperate for the consolidation of Ghana’s democracy. He noted that President Akufo-Addo had provided a brief on the country’s internal and external security situation, as well as key economic issues, which the transition team would explore further.

 

Mahama affirmed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transfer of power and stressed that continued dialogue beyond the transition would strengthen Ghana’s democratic credentials and serve the nation’s best interests.

 

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo lauded Ghana’s success as a stable and functioning democracy that respects the people’s will.

 

President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to protecting human rights, maintaining the rule of law, and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens in their everyday lives.

President Akufo-Addo assured his commitment to providing the incoming administration with all necessary resources and support to facilitate a smooth and efficient start.

 

He stressed the importance of advancing Ghana as a stable and functional democracy that respects the people’s will, upholds human rights, adheres to the rule of law, and guarantees the safety and security of its citizens.

 

Addressing concerns about recent incidents of lawlessness, Akufo-Addo commended President-elect Mahama’s prompt response and public reassurance, emphasizing the state’s responsibility to address such issues effectively.

 

Reflecting on their long-standing relationship, Akufo-Addo described their discussions as constructive and friendly. He noted that he and Mahama have known each other for nearly 20 years, having first met in Parliament in 1997, and have maintained a strong friendship ever since.
