John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), pledged to scrap certain nuisance taxes within his first 100 days in office if elected.
During the campaign season, John Dramani Mahama voiced concerns about certain taxes he considered burdensome to Ghanaians, pledging to eliminate them if elected. These taxes include the E-levy, COVID-19 levy, 10% levy on betting, emissions levy, and import duties on vehicles and equipment for industrial and agricultural purposes.
While the Electoral Commission has yet to announce the official presidential results, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has conceded defeat to Mr. Mahama and promised a smooth transition process.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also congratulated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for securing a majority of seats in Parliament.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, December 8, he said, “We have secured a very significant majority and a majority that we aim to use responsibly and for the progress of the people of Ghana.”
Fifi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), called on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, and her team to ensure there are no unnecessary delays in announcing the presidential results. He expressed confidence in the election outcome, stating, “We know for a fact that nothing can be done about it because it is already in the bag.”
