Historic Comeback: Ghana's Mahama Reclaims Presidency

Ghana’s Electoral Commission has provisionally announced John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, as the winner of the 2024 presidential election.

John Dramani Mahama’s victory in Ghana’s 2024 presidential elections signifies a notable political comeback, marking his return to the highest office in the country. Mahama previously served as President of Ghana from 2012 to 2017, during which he led various development initiatives and governance reforms.

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accepted defeat to his National Democratic Congress (NDC) counterpart, John Dramani Mahama, 24 hours after the polls closed, acknowledging the election results and pledging to support a peaceful transition of power.

He also assured former President John Dramani Mahama of his full support in ensuring that peace and development continue to prevail without interruption.

“I have spoken to President-elect , John Dramani Mahama to extend my congratulations on his well-earned victory in the 2024 presidential election. The people of Ghana have made their voices heard through the democratic process, and it is important that we honor and respect their decision. As leaders, it is our duty to uphold the will of the people and ensure a smooth and peaceful transition of power. I remain committed to supporting this process, as we move forward together for the continued progress and development of our beloved country,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
