John Dumelo, the parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stepped in to pay the outstanding fees of a visually impaired law student at the Ghana School of Law, Makola.
The student, who was at risk of deferral due to unpaid fees, received a crucial help from Mr. Dumelo’s timely intervention. In a post on X, John Dumelo shared that the student had contacted him through a mutual friend, explaining the urgent situation.
The student faced the threat of being deferred from the law program due to an inability to pay the remaining fees, which totaled ¢10,400.
Visually impaired law student Gabriel Selasie Doe contacted me through a friend for help with the remaining GHS 10,400 in fees after he had to sell his laptop. By God’s grace, I have fully paid his fees and also provided money for him to retrieve his laptop,” he shared in a post on X.
The law student, who had already navigated significant challenges due to his visual impairment, was confronted with the additional pressure of potentially losing an entire year of study due to his inability to settle the outstanding fees. This situation left him on the brink of deferral, an outcome that would have further hindered his academic progress.
However, John Dumelo’s intervention has been described as a lifeline for the student, allowing him to continue his education without the threat of disruption. By stepping in to cover the full fees and assist with recovering his laptop, Dumelo not only alleviated the immediate financial burden but also provided a crucial opportunity for the student to pursue his studies uninterrupted.
Dumelo’s gesture has received widespread praise, with many applauding his compassion and generosity. His support goes beyond just addressing the student’s financial needs—it also highlights his broader commitment to supporting education and uplifting individuals facing difficult circumstances. Through this act, Dumelo has shown a dedication to empowering others, demonstrating that his efforts to improve the community extend beyond politics and into meaningful social contributions.
