IGP Urges Parties to Prepare for Both Victory and Defeat in 2024 Elections

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has called on political parties to work closely with the police to ensure the 2024 elections are peaceful and free from incidents.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has assured the public that the Police Service is fully prepared to maintain law and order before, during, and after the upcoming elections. He emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring a peaceful electoral process and safeguarding the security of all citizens. However, he highlighted the importance of collaboration and urged all stakeholders, particularly political parties, to actively support the efforts of the police. Dr. Dampare stressed that achieving incident-free elections is a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation of everyone involved.

During a meeting with representatives of various political parties in Accra on Thursday, November 21, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, urged political leaders to adopt a balanced approach as they prepare for the upcoming elections. He advised them to focus not only on strategies to celebrate a potential victory but also on developing plans to accept and manage a possible defeat with dignity and composure. Dr.

Dampare emphasized that this mindset is essential for maintaining peace and stability during the electoral process and preventing any tensions or conflicts that may arise from the outcomes of the polls. He further called on political parties to demonstrate maturity and responsibility, which he described as critical elements in fostering unity and safeguarding national harmony.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare urged political parties to prepare for both victory and defeat, stating, “As you plan to celebrate your possible victory, plan to also celebrate your defeat or endure it, knowing that only one will win.” He added, “As long as everybody plays their role, Ghana will win.”

“We are prepared for the elections and need your support to ensure our plan succeeds for the good of Ghana,” Dr. George Akuffo Dampare stated.
