Lordina Mahama Takes NDC’s 2024 Manifesto to Kumasi Markets

Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, wife of the NDC presidential candidate, visited major markets in Kumasi to campaign for the National Democratic Congress and John Mahama ahead of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

During a lively walk through the Race Course Market, she engaged directly with traders, discussing key initiatives from Mahama that would benefit their businesses and lives. She also dismissed false claims that the NDC and Mahama intended to cancel the Free SHS policy, encouraging the women to reject such misinformation.

Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama addressed claims circulating among some mothers that her husband, John Mahama, would cancel the Free SHS policy if elected president. She reassured them, saying, “As his wife, I assure you he has never made such a statement. In fact, he has plans to improve and enhance the policy.”

She urged the traders to reject these falsehoods and to vote for John Mahama and the NDC parliamentary candidates to ensure continued development and improvements in their businesses and living conditions. She emphasized the importance of securing a parliamentary majority for the NDC.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception from the traders, Mrs. Mahama said, “I am deeply moved by the love you’ve shown today. This is a moment I will never forget”.

During her campaign at the Kejetia Market, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama highlighted the NDC’s innovative policies, particularly those aimed at supporting women and children. These included the creation of a Women’s Development Bank, the National Apprenticeship Programme, and a fee-free policy for first-year university students.

Despite an attempt by facility managers to disrupt the event by cutting the power supply, the programme continued successfully.

Other speakers at the event reiterated the NDC’s long-standing commitment to the Ashanti Region, assuring traders that a future NDC government would complete phase two of the Kejetia Market project and upgrade the Racecourse Market to provide much-needed shade from the harsh sun.

Earlier, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama engaged with representatives from various markets in Kumasi to discuss the challenges they face and how the NDC’s policies, under John Mahama, would improve their conditions. A key highlight of the discussion was the potential for affordable loans for women and traders, which was warmly welcomed, as high lending rates currently pose a significant challenge to their small businesses.
