The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, over its demand for the whereabouts of the missing Biometric Verification Devices and parts of the Biometric Verification Registration Kits at the Electoral Commission (EC). The party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, on 18th April 2024, wrote to the Speaker of Parliament with the title “Missing Biometric Verification Devices and components of Biometric Verification Registration Kits at the Electoral Commission.” In a letter addressed to the Speaker, he said, “After the leader of the minority in Parliament, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, made it public disclosure that the BVDs and BVRKs (Biometric Verification Registration Kits) are missing and further because of the public and social media attention the matter received, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party deemed it necessary to probe the matter further to establish the truth.”
He said the FEC was involved in the situation, and the EC Chairperson admitted at the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on April 9, 2024, that the biometric equipment had been stolen. This was coupled with a major press conference by the party on April 15, 2024.
