Kamala Harris has appointed Tim Walz as her running mate for the upcoming U.S general election. Should Harris defeat Donald Trump in November, the governor of Minnesota and a former high school teacher will take on the role of vice president.
Mr Walz earned his national repute for of calling Trump and JD Vance “weird”, a phrase latter adoted by the Former vice president Harris after it gained dominance on the internet.
The Harris campaign is betting that independent and conservative voters would be drawn to Walz’s straightforward and small-town Midwesterner demeanor.
The election campaign keeps unfolding with many twists as JD Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate, also called Walz a “far-left radical” and further added he would debate his opponent when he is “officially the nominee”
Kamala Harris will introduce Walz as her running mate at a rally in Philadelphia later today, as they tour key battleground states.
As the two prepare to face off against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance in November, Harris claims the governor of Minnesota has “delivered for working families.”
The Trump campaign calls Walz a “dangerously liberal extremist” and calls the Democratic Party ticket “every American’s nightmare.”
The former Vice president, was reported to have met her vetting team – chaired by former US attorney general Eric Holder – During the weekend and received well- rounded presentations on their findings, including potential political vulnerabilities among other factors.
She held a meeting with three of those candidates – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
The Democratic Party a nd Harris campaign has received a flurry of lobbying efforts on behalf of – or criticising – the candidates.
Mr Shapiro, for example, has drawn sharp opposition from some left-wing groups for his support of private school vouchers in Pennsylvania – a Republican-backed proposal to send $100m to families for private school tuition and school supplies – as well as his pro-Israel views.
