Based on emerging reports, The Blackstar players who made the cut for the 2021 AFCON tournaments each received a whooping 21, ooo$ before they could kick the ball in the tournament held in Cameroon.
This report was made by ace sports Journalist Bright Kankam Boadu, on Friday 26th January 2024.
Speaking on the Players and staff motivation of the Blackstars, he revealed that the players are not intrinsically motivated because they have been overpampered and see no reason to be passionate about their responsibility.
He again noted that the team lacks motivation as players enjoy huge sums of money as compared to their club side
“In 2021 AFCON, every player was given $21,000 as an appearance fee. The players received the money even before they could kick a ball. The Blackstars players are businessmen but you guys don’t see it. If a player gets $21,000 in two weeks after leaving his club, what motivation will he have for the tournament? They get $500 as per diem”. he alleged.
Kankam Boadu was among the panelist who held a discussion on the shambolic and humiliating performance of the Blackstars at the ongoing AFCON at Ivory Coast.
The Blackstars exited the tournament with just two points out of a possible nine, drawing two games and winning none against Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique in group B. A 2-1 loss to Cape Verde and, 2-2 draw with both Egypt and Mozambique.
With just two points and a goal deficit, the Blackstars recorded a successive group-stage exit from the AFCON, having shared the same fate in the 2021 edition.
Owing to a disastrous performance at the AFCON the manager at the helm of affairs, the the entire technical board were all dismissed from their respective roles.
Chris Hughton was appointed as head coach of the Blackstars in March 2023 after serving as a technical advisor for a whole year.
He took charge over 12 games a one year duration.
